So I bought the app and tried it out today. SOOOOO fun!! I haven’t been running in over a year probably (just lots of walking), and I just about killed myself, really. Normally I would have been embarrassed…wearing running clothes and panting, when none of the other people on the street do. I can count on one hand the times I’ve seen joggers on the streets, and I’m pretty sure they’ve always been foreigners. Well, whatever.
It was rainy and dark outside, and for the most part the sidewalks were clear. You have NO clue how fun it is to be running, zombies sounding like they’re directly behind you, and have the radio operator be shouting in your ear, “For God’s sake, run! They’re right behind you!” And the story was really interesting too. The radio operator sounds like Alistair from Dragon Age, and it was interesting hearing them talk about their history, the background of the infestation, etc., during the calmer portions of the run. And then between sections, they play a song or two from your own playlist - sometimes the zombies are even superimposed over the song. You guys…SKRILLEX. ZOMBIES. RUNNING IN THE RAIN AT NIGHT. I felt like a superstar.
The only thing is…I think I actually did push myself too hard. I got a bit dizzy at points. And for some reason they put the main chase at the end of the 30-minute run, when I was already way too beat and could barely keep walking. It’s made for walkers, too, but you still have to speed up enough to make a difference for the GPS, and I just couldn’t (plus there was an old man in my way at that point). So the zombies caught me, I was so pissed. :( There’s only 13 missions so far, so I think tomorrow I may go out and try this same mission again and see if I can’t pace myself a bit better and actually escape the zombies this time. :D
Ultimately it was a really amazing experience and from what I’ve heard about their plans it’s just gonna keep improving with each update that comes out. I’m a little frustrated because I can’t figure out how to access my stats from this run (distance covered, items retrieved, etc.). If anyone knows, do tell, but otherwise I’ll just have to pay attention better when they display it at the end of the run next time.
It’s a little pricey at $7.99 but definitely worth it if it’ll get me off my lazy ass!
In your opinion is there anyway I can incorporate this with rocking my ass on an elliptical or a treadmill? Or do I have to be actually moving for it to know I’m working out?
I’m sad you can only have the GO FASTER GOOO part on something with a gps, because I don’t have music in my phone, and I don’t particularly like bringing my phone with me exercising.
I bought this too. It has an accelerometer function for indoors too.
I haven’t tried it yet- but I’m waiting until I hit the gym up to try.
